# Give a connector its credentials

Credential values are entered per connector after it is saved, in a password field that is never shown back to you.

## Steps

1. Save the connector first, declaring the environment variable names it needs.
2. Find the connector in the list. Each declared variable now has its own credential row.
3. Enter the value and save it. It goes to your operating system’s credential store, one way: the app cannot read it back to show you, only pass it to the server it belongs to.

## How to tell it worked

Test the connection again. A server that failed on authentication before will now list its tools.

## If it does not work

**You cannot see the credential rows.**

They only exist once the connector is saved with variable names declared. An unsaved form has nothing to attach a credential to.

**You want to check what you typed.**

You cannot, by design. Re-enter it rather than hunting for it. Nothing in the app displays a stored credential value.
