# The two privacy choices, and what the usage-data switch sends

In NeuralVault 2.0 the "How would you like to chat?" screen has a usage-data toggle that is on when the screen opens, and Settings, Connections and data, Privacy choices holds the same switch plus a second one about AI providers.

## Steps

1. On the "How would you like to chat?" screen, the toggle "Send anonymous usage data" is switched on when the screen opens. The note under it says it sends counts of which features get used, and crashes, and no conversations, notes, file names or account details. Pressing either "Continue" or "Skip for now" saves whatever the toggle shows at that moment.
2. To change it later, open Settings, then Connections and data, then Privacy choices. The switch there is called "Help find problems before you have to report them". Its state follows the account: a pill reads "Follows your account", or "Waiting to reach your account" until the app is online.
3. Open "What is sent" under that switch. It lists a random token, the app version, your operating system and your edition, sent at most once a day. When the switch is on it also sends anonymous timing and error counts for things like startup, syncing and AI replies, and never a note, file, prompt or reply. Turning the switch off resets the token.
4. The second switch, "Refuse AI providers that train on your data (NV routing only)", is on by default. When on, NeuralVault routing only uses providers that do not collect your prompts, and a turn fails with a clear reason rather than going through one that does. It does not cover Ollama, your own API key or Managed chat.
5. The "Read the full Privacy Policy" button opens the published notice in your browser.

## How to tell it worked

The Privacy choices screen shows the usage-data switch in the state you chose.

## If it does not work

**You skipped the chat setup screen and the switch is on.**

The toggle starts switched on, and "Skip for now" saves it as shown. Turn it off in Privacy choices.

**You turned it off in the app and the website disagrees.**

The setting follows your account. A change made in the app that has not reached the account yet shows "Waiting to reach your account" and is sent the next time the app is online.

**Older guidance says the app collects no usage data at all.**

That describes an earlier build. In this build the switch exists and the two facts above are how it behaves.

## Still stuck

Bug reports belong in the app, in Settings, About. Those carry no contact details, so they
get fixed rather than answered. To get a reply, email us instead: that route targets two
