# Report a bug from the app

In NeuralVault 2.0 the bug icon, or Ctrl+Shift+B, opens a report that always carries the build code and shows everything it would send; the other attachments are off until you tick them.

## Steps

1. Press the bug icon in the top bar, or press Ctrl+Shift+B from anywhere. The shortcut is ignored while you are typing in a box or while a dialog is open.
2. Under "What happened?" describe what you were doing and what the app did instead.
3. Read "Always included: the build code". It is which build you are on: its build code and version, your edition and its channel. Nothing else about you or your machine. It is always sent because we cannot act on a report without it.
4. Under "Also attach", tick what you want to add. All three are off until you turn them on: "System information", "The last error" and "The current conversation". A conversation can quote your notes word for word, so read it first.
5. Read the complete report shown in the preview, then press "Send bug report", which files it on the private tracker, or "Send to the private inbox", which opens your mail client with the report copied to your clipboard to paste in. Use the inbox for anything about your account, plan or your own content.

## How to tell it worked

After "Send bug report" the panel says "Filed. Thank you. You can close this.", or "Someone already reported this" with a reference number.

## If it does not work

**The Send bug report button is greyed out.**

The build code could not be read, so the one-press send is switched off. Use "Send to the private inbox" instead.

**Sending fails.**

The panel says your report is still there and points you to the private inbox. Sending needs the network.

**You want to see what the app logged.**

Press "Open log folder". It is a local record that stays on your machine and is not attached for you.

**You are on a locked build and cannot get in.**

The locked screen has its own "Report a bug" button, so you can still say why it is locked.

## Still stuck

Bug reports belong in the app, in Settings, About. Those carry no contact details, so they
get fixed rather than answered. To get a reply, email us instead: that route targets two
business days. https://perpetualtechnologies.co.uk/contact
