Privacy basics: what stays on your computer

In the Beta build, your vault is a folder on your own computer and signing in does not upload it; what leaves your computer depends on the model you pick, the choices you make in Privacy, and what you tick in a bug report.

Steps

  1. Your notes. They are plain Markdown files in a folder on your computer. The sign-in screen says: "Your vault stays on this machine. The account is only how this install knows what you have paid for." Signing in does not upload your vault.
  2. Your chats. Every turn is written to your vault as plain Markdown, so it stays in your folder.
  3. A model on your own machine. With Ollama running on your computer, your questions and the answers stay on it.
  4. A cloud model. When you pick a hosted model, the text of your chat goes to that provider, so their rules apply. In Chat, the model picker has a data-policy filter: "Any data policy", "No training", and "No training or logging". In Settings, then Connections and data, then Privacy choices, the "AI providers" group has switches for avoiding providers that train on your data or save your prompts.
  5. Your API keys. They are kept in the Windows Credential Manager on this computer. They are sent only to the provider they belong to. They are not written into your vault.
  6. Anonymous usage data. You are asked about anonymous usage data during setup, and you can change your answer any time in Settings, under Privacy. The setting never sends a note, file, prompt or reply.
  7. Bug reports. Only the build code is always sent. Everything else is off until you switch it on, and the preview shows the exact text. See the guide on what a bug report sends.
  8. Your log files. They are a local record on this computer. They are not attached to a report for you.
  9. Removing it all. Settings, then Connections and data, then Remove my data lists what NeuralVault stored on this computer, and removes it only when you confirm. Your vault is not touched.

How to tell it worked

You can name where each kind of your data lives: your vault on your disk, keys in the Credential Manager, and a chat’s text with the provider only when you use a hosted model.

If it does not work

You want to read the full policy.
Settings, then Connections and data, then Privacy choices has "The full policy", and the Perpetual Technologies website has the privacy notice.
You want to stop a hosted model seeing your prompts.
Use a model on your own machine through Ollama, or tighten the data-policy filter in the model picker.
You want your data deleted from our side.
Closing the account itself is done on the website. See the guide on deleting your account.
