Getting started and installing
Download, install and open NeuralVault for the first time.
Installing on Windows
Running the installer, the Windows warning, and what your PC needs.
- Install NeuralVault on WindowsThe installer is a standard Windows setup that installs for your user only, needs no administrator rights and lets you choose the folder; it creates Start menu and desktop shortcuts.
- Windows says "Windows protected your PC"The installer is signed by Perpetual Technologies AI Ltd; SmartScreen can still warn about a new release because it also weighs how many people have run that exact version.
- System requirementsNeuralVault is built for 64-bit Windows 10 and 11; the project documentation publishes no minimum memory or disk figure, so none is given here.
- Uninstall NeuralVault without losing your vaultIn the Beta build, uninstalling removes the app and its settings files but does not touch your vault, and it does not remove saved API keys unless you remove them first.
- Can I use NeuralVault on a Mac or Linux? In the Beta build, NeuralVault is built and tested on Windows only; macOS and Linux are experimental and there is no macOS or Linux installer yet.
The first run
The screens you see once, and which choices stick.
- First run: choose where your notes liveOn a new install the first screen asks for a folder for your vault, then creates it; it cannot be skipped because without a vault the app has nowhere to save anything.
- Windows blocked NeuralVault from making this folderIn the Beta build, setting up or moving your vault can stop with "Windows blocked NeuralVault from making this folder" (NV-VAULT-019), usually because Windows Security’s Controlled folder access is on; nothing was changed.
- The "How would you like to chat?" screenAlso hereIn NeuralVault 2.0 the app asks once per account on this machine how you want to chat: your NeuralVault balance, your own API key, or a model on this machine, and you can tick more than one.Home: Chat and models / Connecting a provider or key
Finding your way around
Where a setting or page lives, and how to change the look.
- Where each setting livesIn NeuralVault 2.0 Settings has five groups and the sections below; use this list to find a setting by the question you have.
- Find a page: the sidebar, Ctrl+K and SettingsIn NeuralVault 2.0 the sidebar lists Dashboard, Library, Board, Calendar and Canvas; everything else, including Vault, Skills, Activity and Audit logs, opens from the Ctrl+K palette.
- Read the Activity page: your recent runs, newest firstIn the Beta build, the Activity page lists the newest 100 runs on your machine under a heading for each day, refreshes every 8 seconds, and shows your scheduled prompts at the top; it is on Personal and Business, not Free.
- Change the theme, interface size and currency displayIn NeuralVault 2.0, Settings, Workspace, Appearance sets the theme and interface size, changes how money is displayed, and reopens the chat setup screen.
