Uninstall NeuralVault without losing your vault
In the Beta build, uninstalling removes the app and its settings files but does not touch your vault, and it does not remove saved API keys unless you remove them first.

Steps
- Decide about your API keys. Uninstalling does not remove them. They are held in the Windows Credential Manager, and the uninstaller cannot list them. To remove them first, open NeuralVault, then Settings, then Connections and data, then Remove my data. Press "Show what would be removed", read the list, and confirm.
- If you like, copy your vault folder somewhere else as a backup. Settings, then Workspace, then Vault shows where it is.
- Close NeuralVault. If it runs in the tray, quit it from the tray icon.
- Start the uninstall from Windows’ own list of installed apps.
- When the uninstaller asks "Uninstall NeuralVault?", read it. It says it removes the application and its settings files in your user folder: window layout, theme, provider and model choices, job toggles, connector settings, the plugin registry and the crash log. It says your vault is not touched, and that saved API keys are not removed.
- Press Yes to continue.
- To come back later, install again. The uninstaller also removes the small file that remembers which folder is your vault. So the first screen asks where your notes live. Choose the same folder. Notes already there are left exactly as they are.
How to tell it worked
Your vault folder and its notes are still there after the uninstall, and after a reinstall the same folder opens with your notes.
If it does not work
- You want everything gone, including the keys.
- Use Remove my data before you uninstall, as in the first step. It lists what it will remove before it does anything.
- You updated the app and your settings are gone.
- An update does not remove them. Only an uninstall does. If they went after an update, report it.
- You want to delete the vault too.
- Delete the folder yourself in File Explorer. NeuralVault never deletes it. Make a copy first if there is any chance you want it.
