A note will not save, or will not open
In the Beta build, a note that will not save or open shows an NV-VAULT code; copy your text somewhere safe first, then fix what the message names.

Steps
- Protect your text first. Select it and copy it into another program, such as Notepad. A failed save does not erase what is on screen, but a crash or a close would.
- Read the code. NV-VAULT-003, "The note could not be saved": check the vault folder is not read-only or full, then save again.
- NV-VAULT-004, "The note changed while it was open": another program, device or agent changed or removed the note after NeuralVault read it. Nothing was written. Open the note again, make your edit again and save.
- NV-VAULT-012, "That note is not plain UTF-8 text": open the file in another editor, save it as UTF-8 text, then pick the note again. The file was not changed.
- NV-VAULT-013, "That note could not be opened": the file may be locked by another program or set to no access. Close it in any other program, check you are allowed to read it, then pick it again.
- NV-VAULT-016, "Windows reserves that folder or note name": a name such as CON, NUL or COM1, or one with a colon or a trailing dot, cannot be saved. Rename the folder or note in File Explorer, or pick another folder.
- NV-VAULT-007, "The note could not be deleted": check the note is not open in another program, then try again.
- Save again. If it still fails, press "Copy error details" and report it.
How to tell it worked
The note saves, and reopening it shows your text.
If it does not work
- The whole vault says it cannot be opened.
- See the guide on changing your vault folder. The vault folder may have been moved, renamed or disconnected.
- You closed the window and lost the edit.
- See the guide on closing the window with unsaved edits.
- You edit your notes in another program at the same time.
- That is the usual cause of NV-VAULT-004. Close one of them while you work.
