Change which folder is your vault

Settings, Workspace, Vault shows where the vault is and how many notes it holds, and "Change vault folder" points the app at another folder.

Steps

  1. Open Settings, then Workspace, then Vault. The screen shows Location, Notes and Folders.
  2. Press "Change vault folder" and pick the folder in the chooser.
  3. Wait for the button to finish "Switching..." and check the Location row now shows the folder you picked.

How to tell it worked

The Location row shows the new folder, and the Notes and Folders counts change to match it.

If it does not work

The message says the folder was saved but the app is still looking at another path.
If it names NV_VAULT_PATH, that environment variable overrides the setting. Unset it and restart, or point it at the folder you chose. Otherwise nothing could be found in the folder: choose a different one.
The screen says "Could not open the vault".
The message under it is the reason. A moved, renamed or disconnected folder is the usual cause. "Change vault folder" is still available on that screen, so use it to point at the right place.
You want to know how the app decides which vault to open.
The NV_VAULT_PATH environment variable first, then the path stored in the .neuralvault-vault-path file in your user folder, then Documents\NeuralVault.
