Edit a note inside NeuralVault, or in your own editor
A note opened in the Vault page has an Edit button, and a refused save keeps your text. You can also edit the Markdown file in any editor; NeuralVault reads the same file straight back.

Steps
- Open a note in the Vault page to read it, then press Edit to change its text in place and Save to write it. An empty note shows "This note is empty. Press Edit to write in it."
- To change a note elsewhere, open the vault folder in any text editor you already use, Notepad, VS Code, Obsidian, and edit the Markdown file directly. NeuralVault reads the same file back with nothing to reconcile.
- Link one note to another with [[Note title]], the same convention Obsidian uses. An alias works too: [[real-note-name|what you want to call it]].
How to tell it worked
A change you make in an external editor shows up the next time you open that note, and a change you save in the editor is in the file on disk.
If it does not work
- A save was refused.
- Usually the file changed on disk, or it is read-only or locked by another program. When the file cannot be replaced, the engine saves your new text in a file beside the note named like the note with .unsaved and a time on the end, and the editor says so. Your text is not lost. After a refused save, Cancel shows the note as it is on disk now.
- You expected the assistant to be able to edit a note for you.
- In Chat, Cortex can write, append to and move notes, and each such write pauses on an approval card until you approve it. Deletions are always refused.
