Ask the assistant to remember something, and where it is kept
In NeuralVault 2.0 "remember that" is an instruction to write to disk: a fact about you goes in your profile and a standing rule goes on the end of CORTEX.md, each behind an approval card.

Steps
- In Chat, tell the assistant what to remember: for example "remember that I prefer short answers" or "from now on write summaries as bullet points".
- A durable fact about you goes into your profile. A standing rule about how it should behave goes on the end of CORTEX.md at the vault root. Either write pauses on an approval card and says plainly what it is about to write. Press Approve to let it happen.
- To read or edit what is in force, open Settings, then Intelligence, then Standing instructions. NeuralVault reads CORTEX.md, then CLAUDE.md, then AGENTS.md from the vault root and uses the first one that has text in it. A blank file is skipped.
- Edit the file in the vault to change what it says. The Settings screen only reads it.
How to tell it worked
The Standing instructions screen shows the file that is in force with your addition in it.
If it does not work
- The assistant says it will remember but no approval card appears.
- Nothing was saved. Ask it again to write it down, and check the card appears. A promise with no card behind it did not change anything on disk.
- Standing instructions says "No standing instructions in this vault yet".
- None of the three files exists at the vault root. Create CORTEX.md in the vault folder and what you write appears there.
- A file lower in the list has your text but is not used.
- The first non-blank file wins. The Settings list shows which file is read first and says nothing written in a later one reaches the assistant.
- The end of a long CORTEX.md seems to be ignored.
- The assistant reads at most 40,000 bytes of it. Text past that is cut off. Keep the file shorter.
