An update failed: what each NV-UPD code means
In the Beta build, a failed update shows a code starting NV-UPD; your installed version keeps working and your files are safe. "No update information was found" (NV-UPD-001) means the update location did not have the file that lists the latest version; try again later, or download the newest installer.

Steps
- Open Settings, then Account, then About. The update row shows the message and the code. Press "Copy error details" if you need to send it to us.
- NV-UPD-001, "No update information was found": the place that lists the latest version had no file. It is not a fault with your account or your vault. Try again later. If it keeps happening, copy the error details and send them to support, or download the newest installer from the download page and run it over your copy. The guide on updating the Beta by reinstalling has the steps. *Corrected 2026-10-15: on the first Beta build, now withdrawn, this was expected every time.
- NV-UPD-002, "The update was refused because it could not be verified": NeuralVault checks that an update is signed by its publisher. This one failed and was removed. Check for updates again. Do not install an update from anywhere else.
- NV-UPD-003, "The update could not be downloaded": the file was incomplete or did not match its checksum. Check for updates again and it downloads again.
- NV-UPD-004, "There is no downloaded update to apply": you pressed Update before a download finished. Check for updates and wait for the download to finish.
- NV-UPD-005, "The update could not be started": close NeuralVault, open it again, and try again.
- NV-UPD-006, "The background engine did not stop cleanly": nothing to do unless something looks wrong after the restart.
- NV-UPD-007, "The last update did not finish": NeuralVault closed to apply an update but it did not complete. The version you have still works and your files are safe. Try again from Settings, About, or download the installer from the download page.
- NV-UPD-008, "The update was not started": the downloaded file is missing or the disk is too full. Free some space, or check for updates again to download it again.
- NV-UPD-999, "The updater hit a problem": try again. If it keeps happening, send us the error details.
How to tell it worked
Check for updates in About ends with "NeuralVault is up to date." or an update that downloads and installs.
If it does not work
- The same code comes back after trying again.
- Press "Copy error details" and report it with the bug icon or Ctrl+Shift+B. Tick "Update status" under "What to include" so we can see the last update event.
- The app is never offered an older version.
- That is by design. The updater only moves forward.
- You would rather install by hand.
- Download the newest installer from the download page and run it. Your vault is not touched.
