The app shows a locked screen: what each message means

In the Beta build, a locked screen replaces the app when it cannot confirm that your account may run it; the title says why, and most causes clear by themselves.

Steps

  1. Read the title and the line under it. Then find it below.
  2. "Checking your access" or "The Beta is checking your account": wait. It opens by itself if your account can use it. If it stays, press "Check again".
  3. "Sign in to open The Beta": sign in with the form on the same screen.
  4. "The Beta is not released yet": see the guide on that screen.
  5. "The Beta is already open on another computer": your plan runs on a limited number of computers at once. The screen says it will open here by itself about 30 minutes after the other copy closes. Close NeuralVault on the other computer and wait. A paid plan can also end the other session from the account page.
  6. "The Beta cannot reach the licence service": "Connect to the internet to renew your licence. This is a connection problem, not your account." It keeps trying and opens by itself once it gets through. A line like "Tried 3 times. Trying again automatically." shows it is trying.
  7. "The Beta could not get a licence for this account": the service said no. If you have just signed up or subscribed, press "Check again".
  8. On any locked screen you can press "Check again", sign in with the form, or press "Report a bug". The report always carries the build code.

How to tell it worked

The locked screen goes away and the app opens.

If it does not work

It says it is open on another computer, but you have closed every other copy.
The place frees up 30 minutes after the other copy last checked in. Wait, then press "Check again".
It keeps saying it cannot reach the service.
Check your internet connection. See the guide on network error messages. A firewall or a proxy can block it.
You want to know what a locked screen does to your notes.
Nothing. Your vault is a folder on your computer. The lock only decides whether the app opens.
