Update the Beta: download the new installer

NeuralVault checks for updates and installs them. If an update does not arrive, or "No update information was found" (NV-UPD-001) shows, you can download the newest installer from the download page and run it over your copy; your vault is kept.

Steps

  1. Back up your vault first. Your notes are plain files in your vault folder, so a backup is a copy of that folder. Open Settings, then Workspace, then Vault to see where it is, and copy it somewhere else.
  2. Know what the message means. If "Check for updates" in Settings, then Account, then About shows "No update information was found" with the code NV-UPD-001, the update location did not have the file that lists the latest version. It is not a fault with your account or your vault. Try again later first. *Corrected 2026-10-15: the first Beta build, now withdrawn, always showed this because it could not update itself; the current Beta can.
  3. Go to the download page on the NeuralVault website (perpetualtechnologies.co.uk/download) and download the newest Beta installer.
  4. Close NeuralVault fully. If it is still in the tray, quit it from there.
  5. Run the new installer. It installs over your old copy for your Windows user only. The installer is not one-click, so it asks you to confirm the install folder.
  6. Open NeuralVault. Sign in again only if it asks you to.
  7. Open Settings, then Account, then About and read the version. It should be the one you downloaded.

How to tell it worked

About shows the version you downloaded, and your notes are still in the vault.

If it does not work

Windows shows a SmartScreen warning when you run the installer.
See the guide on installing on Windows.
The version in About did not change.
Check you downloaded the newest installer and not an older file from your Downloads folder, then run it again.
You still see NV-UPD-001 after installing the new version.
The current Beta has the website feed and updates itself. If the newest installer still shows it, press "Copy error details" and report it with the bug icon or Ctrl+Shift+B.
You are not sure whether your notes are safe.
Your backup from step 1 is a copy of the whole vault folder. Open the vault folder in File Explorer and check the files are there.
